“A good friend of mine once told me to live by the five dollar rule. When you’re at the crossroads trying to decide whether you should commit to purchasing an item, remember: $5.
The rule is:
The cost of the item at hand < 5The number of times you will use it
Translation: Mentally divide the cost of the item you want to purchase by the number of times you will (honestly) use/wear it. If the resulting quotient is less than or equal to 5…commit yourself to the purchase.
Of course it doesn’t apply to every thing you buy, but for the most part it’s pretty valid. You buy a $300 pair of shoes for example. You got to wear it at least 60 times to have gotten your money’s worth. Sounds pretty fair…
But I’ve been thinking, even $5 is a bit generous. I think a $2 rule is most sensible. $2 rule ensures long-term commitment to your expensive stuff, far more than the $5 rule. If you’re going to buy a $300 pair of shoes, you should wear them at least 150 times. …ahha it really works. Helps you think twice before buy expensive things.” via$$$. « DDG!

BRILLIANT! I am def going to use this strategy from now on.
